1.Q. How do I find out about staff training on the Camden Campus?
A. All training workshops will be posted on the Human Resources - Camdem website, forwarded via broadcast emails, and a limited number of fliers will be distributed via campus mail.

2. Q. Who can attend training workshops offered by Human Resources?
A.
All faculty and staff on the Camden Campus.

3. Q.Where are training programs conducted?
A.
Most training will be conducted in the Office of Human Resources Training Facility is located in Blumenthal Hall 201. For larger sessions, location will be announced.

4. Q. Is there a policy regarding getting permission to attend training?
A.
No. However, we do encourage you to speak with your supervisor before enrolling in any programs. All employees need to discuss with their supervisors what workshops might be appropriate and whether they can be spared from the office to attend.

5. Q. Will the Office of Human Resources provide funds to employees to attend conferences and workshops off-campus?
A.
No. Such funding is not made available through Human Resources. However, your department may cover off-campus training relating to your position at their discretion, if such funding is available.

6. Q. I heard about a supervisor development program? Can I attend?
A.
The Leadership Development Certificate Program is offered every fall and spring for new supervisors at Rutgers. Supervisors are enrolled in a 5-week program that focuses on leadership, staff development, & employee management.

7. Q. I’ve heard about certificate programs offered on New Brunswick campuses. What are they? Are there any classes offered in Camden?
A.
The Business Accounting & Business Accounting Supervisor Certificate programs are offered through UHR Professional Development. While most of the workshops are offered in New Brunswick, instructors present various foundation courses on the Newark campus. These courses are announced through our usual methods.

8. Q. What other certificate programs are offered on this campus?
A.
Other than the Leadership Development Certificate Program, for supervisors, we are adding the Professional Development Certificate Program – for administrative non-supervisory staff, and the Staff Development Certificate Program – for all staff. 9. Q. What other types of training are being offered in Camden?
A.
New Employee Orientation is conducted every three months for all new hires to the Newark Campus. Benefit training & workshops are available in such subject areas as Financial Planning for Women, Advanced Estate Planning, Home Buying, and Retirement Planning. Supervisor training in Harassment Compliance and Pay-for- Performance is conducted on an annual basis, as well as our new Supervisor Orientation that is conducted soon after the employee’s hire. Defensive Driving is provided to departments on an as-needed basis, or sporadically for general audiences, including the general public. We also have workshops that can be part of a certificate program or taken individually, such as: Business Writing, Goal Setting, Organization Skills, & Time Management (just to name a few). 10. Q. Can a department request special “in-house” training from HR-Camden?
A.
Yes. We can make “house calls” on a variety of topics such as “Customer Service, Writing Job Descriptions, or Progressive Discipline,” as well as customized workshops for topics based on your department’s needs.

11. Q. Do I have to charge my leave time to take training?
A.
If the training is not pertinent to your job, you should charge Administrative Leave, a Personal Holiday, or a Vacation Day. For example, the Defensive Driving Course can be taken for motor vehicle point reduction or insurance discount as well as a requirement for driving a university owned or leased vehicle. If you are not taking the course as a requirement for your job, but for personal reasons, then you must charge a day of leave.

12. Q. I signed up for a workshop, but now I can’t go? What should I do?
A.
You can “drop” the workshop via the Professional Development website, or contact Carmen Santiago at ext. 5502.
